DESIGNS PRINCIPLES ✿ EXERCISES ✿

 Exercise 1

In Exercise 1, we need to choose 2 from 9 design principles, Gestalt Theory, Contrast, Emphasis, Balance, Repetition, Movement, Harmony & Unity, Symbol, and World & Image as examples. After a day of understanding, I chose Movement and Repetition as examples, which are relatively simple, because I am not an art student, so I can only learn from the simplest.

Movement

As far as I know, movement is to let the viewer automatically look at the work from a certain direction. It seems to be near to far, so I thought of the road.

Figure 1
This road perfectly interprets movement, it slowly goes from a short distance to a long distance, and the viewer will follow the direction of the road.

So I choose to use highways to represent movement.

Figure 1.1

Although it represents near to far, it still cannot fully represent movement. So I choose to optimize it.

Figure 1.2

While it's much better than the previous one, it still lacks detail.

Repetition

After some understanding, repetition is to express a work by repeating an element, for example, color, pattern, font, image, texture, etc. So I tried to re-use various elements to express repetition.

Figure 2
Through observation, it can be found that this design keeps repeating the letter "A", so I tried to use other elements to make my own work.

I wanted to try using stairs for a repeating effect, but I didn't find it suitable.
The stairs.

Afterward, I thought of works with a more New Year atmosphere, so I drew a rabbit holding Spring Festival couplets, but I felt that the number of repetitions was too small, so I gave up this idea.

Rabbits I gave up.

I thought of using a robot to do repetition.

The robot I found it on WeChat.

Figure 2.4

Because it is too monotonous, I added a larger robot in the middle to highlight this work.

Reflection

After completing the first exercise, I learned that design is a very interesting thing. Although I am not good at drawing, I learned a lot about the principles of design and tried to make my own design. I also believe that I can go one step further to complete a better design.
