DESIGNS PRINCIPLES ✿ WEEK 1 ✿

Week 1

In the first week, we were arranged to watch the pre-recorded lecture video prepared by the lecturer: lectures 1.1 and 1.2, Element and Principle Design & Contrast, and Gestalt Theory.

Element and Principle Design:

After watching the pre-recorded lecture video prepared by the teacher, I learned that there are 7 different types of elements in the design, namely, point, line, shape, form, texture, space, and color. Literally, they are just a very simple thing, but putting them together, will create something different, even shocking. They often appear around us, it may be a scene, a poster, or a signboard.

Contrast and Gestalt Theory:

After watching the pre-recorded lecture video, we know that “Contrast” is the juxtaposition of strongly dissimilar elements. Simply put, it is to highlight an item or a character, that is, we can easily know which one when we first see it is the main character. It can let readers understand the thoughts that the whole art wants to bring to us through bright colors or simple backgrounds. For Gestalt Theory, we learned that "Gestalt" refers to "shape" or "form" in German. It is divided into different principles, that is similarity, continuation, closure, proximity, figure/ground, and the law of symmetry & order. They express different things with different ideas. The results seen by different people will have different feelings, because the messages sent by each person's brain are different, which also highlights their creativity and special features.
