DESIGNS PRINCIPLES ✿ FINAL PROJECT ✿
Final Project
Visual analysis is a way to understand and observe design, it is an analysis in terms of visual effects and principles. In definition, description, and interpretation of the visual structure itself. From the visual analysis, we can observe the elements used by creators when designing and the content, ideas, and meanings that designers want to convey. This skill enables a quick understanding of the message the creator wants to show. In this assignment, we need illustrations for visual analysis and then related to the UNSDG goal.
❀ Visual Analysis ❀

When I'm looking for a great piece of work to do a visual analysis on, I browse the galleries of different authors and see different art styles. Among all the amazing works, I found an artist's illustration that is very impressive, that is @Wlop's illustration. This is an illustration created by @Wlop, although not everyone will appreciate this illustration, I chose this illustration for my visual analysis. Most of the Yulia (Figure 1) designed by @Wlop has something to do with the ocean, so he also inspired me to choose Goal 14: Life Below Water.
The illustrations in Figure 1 are arranged in a horizontal format, which is relatively complex because it has a lot of elements. It is the dark series to create this illustration. A girl in a long silver dress sits on a throne piled up with skeletons, surrounded by skeletons and surrounded by 6 angels.
This is a symmetrical balance design, the main element of this illustration is the girl in the middle, followed by the skull and angel next to her. The designs balance both side skeletons and angels to make the whole illustration look balanced. In addition, the skeletons surrounding the girl can be seen that the designer used repetition to create. The use of light highlights the girl sitting on the throne and weakens the skeleton next to her so that the audience's attention will be on the girl when they first see this illustration, and the second look is to observe the girl's side object. The light and shadow of this illustration are from left to right, so the left side of the girl (the right side of this illustration) will be relatively darker, but she looks towards the dark part. The light source in this illustration is blurred from it, which also creates a more impressive visual effect.
Phase 3: Interpretation
Figure 1 is the author @wlop. His name is Wang Ling. He was born in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, and graduated from the School of Engineering of the University of Hong Kong. He currently has two comic works, "Ghost Blade" and "Cloud Worm". He likes to draw, and he also loves working as an engineer.
The girl in this painting is called Yulia (海琴烟). Yulia is the daughter of the king and queen of the Yu clan. She wears the pendant left to her by her biological parents, which is ice blue. There is a twin sister Sarlia (萨利亚), who will appear in later chapters. The twins were born when the Yu Clan was defeated. In order to protect the two sisters, the high priest sealed Yulia, and the Valkyrie Shiriga sealed Sarlia and handed them to the elders of the human Snow Clan to guard them until the day when the seal was broken two hundred years later. Yulia's knight is Kaine. Yulia often falls asleep sucking her fingers and having the same nightmare, which is related to her own life experience.
In the 181st year of the Nora calendar, Yulia was born from ice and was adopted by King Haiqin (海琴王). She was loved by the king, but the people thought she was a monster that would bring misfortune, so they hated her very much. In the 200th year of the Nora calendar, Austin discovered Yulia's life experience and asked King Haiqin to hand it over, but the king refused. The situation is precarious and war is imminent. In order to save the people from the suffering of the war, Yulia wanted to give herself to the blood angel Austin, but was robbed by Ghost Blade (鬼刀) and disappeared from the eyes of the world.

❀ Choosing of Theme ❀
Visual Reference
WLOP is a very inspiring artist, I have been following his work. Most of his designs are related to war, and some of his designs are about the ocean world, but these two types of designs are full of mystery, and he is used to creating in a dark style. I really appreciate his design.
This illustration is based on Goal 14, Life Below Water which is under United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG). Goal 14 is to appeal to everyone to take care of the cleanliness of the ocean. Our sea is endangered because people throw waste into the sea, which also seriously affects marine life. But people don't seem to care about the fact that the ocean is polluted. They only care about their own interests and their living environment, completely ignoring the living environment of marine life. The degree of pollution in the ocean is also slowly increasing, which also means that marine organisms cannot live in a comfortable environment, and some marine organisms have even been greatly affected by this, such as eating plastic bags by mistake, the respiratory being stuck by the straw, or pour chemicals into the ocean, this is what marine life is going through, and humans don't care about it.
This illustration is to make people pay attention to how serious ocean pollution is. As the years slowly increase, ocean pollution will affect our lives. It's like Japan says it will release more than a million tons of water into the sea from the destroyed Fukushima nuclear power plant this year. I believe that if Japan really discharges nuclear water into the ocean, it will cause marine life to mutate, or zombies. In this illustration, I designed a whale out of waste discarded, and also some sea creatures whose lives were affected by waste discarded. The mermaid blocked by the whale is a half-human, half-fish creature that is mutated to express human beings and polluted by nuclear wastewater. The title directly above is to highlight the fact that the ocean is polluted.
Several design principles are used in this design, namely word & image, movement, balance, and harmony & unity. Word & image was used to highlight the meaning that this illustration wants to express. I set the title of this illustration as "They are going Extinct Say #NoPlastic", so when you see this illustration, you can clearly know that this illustration is about ocean pollution. The movement was used in whales and air bubbles, it gives us an idea of which direction the whale is swimming. Balance was used in the mermaid and whale, the mermaid is to the right, and the whale is to the left. Lastly, harmony & unity was used between the mermaid and the whale. In conclusion, I hope this illustration can make people pay more attention to ocean pollution.
