✿ LECTURE RECAP ✿

Week 10

During Week 10, we focused on the concept of surrealism and its application in our artworks to convey messages. Here's a summary of what we covered:

Realism: We explored the use of ordinary and common subject matters in art, representing the world as it is.

Surrealism: We delved into surrealism, which involves the exploration of the subconscious mind and the creation of dream-like visuals. Surrealism aims to distort reality and evoke a sense of wonder.

Surrealism in Digital Art: We discussed how surrealism can be applied in digital art styles to express the artist's ideas. Some techniques and concepts we explored include:

  • Creating dream-like scenes and incorporating symbolic images.
  • Experimenting with unexpected and illogical juxtapositions.
  • Combining ordinary objects in bizarre and unconventional ways.
  • Embracing primitive or child-like designs for a unique aesthetic.

Animation in Adobe Photoshop: We learned about the animation function in Adobe Photoshop. Specifically, we focused on animating using layers and keyframes. By utilizing keyframes, we were able to create smooth transitions between frames, achieving a dream-like effect in our animations.

Another way to animate the video is Puppet Warp. The Puppet Warp function allows for image manipulation by placing anchor points.

Week 11

This week, Mr. Martin introduced us to Adobe After Effects. After Effects is a powerful software used for motion graphics, visual effects, and video editing. It allows us to create and manipulate animations, apply various effects, and enhance the overall visual appeal of our projects. We learned about the different features and tools in After Effects, and how to use them effectively to bring our ideas to life.

✿ DESIGN PROCESS ✿

The final project of Digital Photography and Imaging is centered around creating a self-titled artwork. This project serves as an exploration of self-expression, where we have the opportunity to express our unique individuality and reflect our personality through digital art. The main focus is on building self-confidence and fostering self-discovery through the creative process. It allows us to delve into our inner thoughts and emotions, using digital tools and techniques to bring our vision to life.

Design Direction

In week 12, Mr. Martin conducted a photo shoot session, offering participants the opportunity to engage in a high-quality photoshoot. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the session, which left me feeling disappointed. However, I took matters into my own hands and decided to capture a self-portrait of myself.

After brainstorming, I have developed a captivating idea that revolves around immersing myself in the magical world of wizards. In my design, I envision wielding a wand crafted from a hairpin in my left hand, while commanding a mesmerizing fireball with precision and flair in my right hand. This imaginative fusion of wand craft and pyromancy breathes life into my enchanting vision.

Exeutuin and Post Production

Before diving into Photoshop editing, it was crucial for me to determine the appropriate background for my artwork. Considering the theme of the "magic world," I embarked on a search for dark and mystical backgrounds that would complement my vision. After thorough exploration, I discovered four distinct backgrounds that resonated with the enchanting atmosphere I aimed to create.

Finally, after careful consideration, I selected the 4th background as the perfect choice for my artwork. Its dark and mysterious ambiance, coupled with elements of enchantment, resonated strongly with the theme of the "magic world." This background provided the ideal backdrop to bring my vision to life and create a captivating and immersive experience for the viewer.

Seemingly, the chosen background appeared too plain for my liking. To enhance the visual appeal of my design, I made the decision to incorporate additional elements. I introduced flying papers, snakes, and dementors, which added a touch of movement and intrigue to the composition. These small details brought a sense of liveliness and depth to the overall artwork, transforming it into a captivating and dynamic representation of the magical world I envisioned.

After incorporating those elements, I felt a greater sense of satisfaction with my design. The addition of flying papers, snakes, and dementors brought an extra layer of visual interest and complexity to the artwork. These elements enhanced the overall atmosphere and further emphasized the magical world theme I aimed to portray. With these additions, my design now exudes a captivating and enchanting quality that truly captures my creative vision.

Animation and Finishing

After completing the self-titled artwork, I ventured into the realm of animation using After Effects. Initially, I had little knowledge of how to navigate the software, so I took the initiative to conduct thorough research. I watched tutorial videos on YouTube to gain a better understanding of the various tools and features available in After Effects. Through these resources, I acquired the necessary knowledge and skills to bring my artwork to life through animation.

Once I had a solid understanding of how to use After Effects, I began the process of animating the elements I added to my design. Using the software's animation tools and techniques, I brought the flying papers, snakes, and floating books to life. Through careful manipulation of keyframes and motion paths, I achieved a captivating and seamless animation, allowing these elements to gracefully float and enhance the magical atmosphere of my artwork.

After adding the puppet warp to my hand in After Effects, I gained the ability to manipulate its movement. By setting anchor points and adjusting the mesh, I achieved realistic and fluid motion for my hand. This allowed me to create the illusion that my hand was dynamically interacting with the elements in the scene, further enhancing the magical ambiance of my design.

After being satisfied with my final work, I proceeded to export it. Exporting the project allows me to save it in a suitable format and prepare it for sharing or further use. It ensures that the design is preserved in its intended form and can be viewed or utilized as desired. Exporting also provides the opportunity to showcase the completed work to others and receive feedback or recognition for my efforts.

✿ REFLECTION ✿

Project 3, titled "Self-Titled," was a transformative journey of self-expression and creativity. Inspired by the magical world of Harry Potter, I embarked on creating a design that embodied my individuality. Through careful research and exploration, I selected appropriate sources and backgrounds to enhance my poster. Utilizing Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, I crafted a captivating title and added elements to bring depth and interest to the composition. Through the use of Adobe After Effects, I animated the design, adding an enchanting touch to the project. Despite facing challenges, such as self-photography and mastering new techniques like puppet warp, I persevered and produced a final work that I was satisfied with. The project taught me the importance of adaptability, self-motivation, and the power of visual storytelling. Overall, it was a valuable experience that fostered personal growth and boosted my confidence as an artist.
