Figure 1.2 Design Significance
Design Significance - Graphics hold significance across cultural studies,
philosophy, sociology, and origin history by visually representing
cultural identity, facilitating philosophical exploration, shaping social
norms, and documenting historical evolution, thereby serving as powerful
tools for communication, expression, and understanding in diverse
contexts.
Figure 1.3 Design System
A design system encompasses purpose, aesthetics, and use. It serves to
articulate values, principles, and practices guiding design endeavors,
while defining the look and feel, design elements, and functions to
ensure consistency and coherence in visual representation. Employing
various tools and technologies, design systems streamline workflows,
facilitate collaboration, and enhance efficiency in creating cohesive
and user-centric design experiences.

✿ PROJECT 1: PROPOSAL PRESENTATION ✿
Project 1 focuses on researching and understanding three sensitive cultures
or subcultures. The goal is to convey their cultural aspects accurately
without distorting facts, through visually expressive design language. Each
visual idea must be accompanied by a 200-word rationale justifying its
cultural representation. This project promotes cultural sensitivity in
design by encouraging respectful and authentic portrayal of diverse
cultures.
Figure 3.1 Self Exploration & Research
After deliberation, the team decided to focus on the "Kopitiam Cultural"
phenomenon for their project. "Kopitiams" are traditional coffee shops found
in Southeast Asia, particularly in Malaysia and Singapore, known for their
unique blend of coffee, multicultural ambiance, and culinary offerings. The
team will delve into the intricacies of Kopitiam culture, exploring its
historical significance, social dynamics, and culinary traditions. They aim
to convey the essence of Kopitiam culture through visually expressive design
language while maintaining authenticity and respect for the cultural
heritage. Each design idea will be supported by a 200-word rationale,
highlighting its relevance in accurately representing the Kopitiam
experience. This choice reflects the team's commitment to promoting cultural
sensitivity in design by celebrating and preserving the rich tapestry of
Southeast Asian heritage embodied in Kopitiam culture.

✿ REFLECTION ✿
Choosing "Kopitiam Cultural" as our project topic reflects a thoughtful
decision grounded in our shared values of diversity and cultural sensitivity.
We recognize Kopitiams as vibrant symbols of Southeast Asian heritage,
embodying rich traditions of coffee culture, social interaction, and culinary
diversity. By focusing on this topic, we aim to authentically represent the
nuances of Kopitiam culture through visually expressive design language while
upholding respect for its historical significance and community essence. Our
choice underscores our commitment to promoting cultural understanding and
empathy in design, as we endeavor to celebrate the unique tapestry of human
experiences encapsulated within Kopitiams and contribute meaningfully to the
discourse on cultural representation.
