✿ TASK 2: VISUAL DESIGN PUBLICATION FINAL DISSETATION

This task requires designing the publication of your dissertation, reflecting both your theoretical and practical knowledge in design. The publication concept must be relevant to your research topic, and the e-publication format is expected. The page layout, publication size, font, and font size are predetermined, but students are encouraged to make other design decisions guided by the lecturer. The publication is best kept at A5 size for potential future printing or accreditation purposes.

The cover page should include the research title and the student’s name. Following the cover page, include:

  • Student’s full name (as in the registry)

  • Student number

  • The Design School at Taylor’s University, Subang Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia

  • Design Research Dissertation (DIS60304)

  • Bachelor of Design Creative Media

  • Semester intake

  • Date of submission

Students are expected to present weekly progress during tutorials and record their learning in the individual tutorial feedback online form based on lecturer feedback. This reflective practice ensures continuous improvement and development throughout the publication process.

✿ DESIGN PROCESS ✿

I started working on the mood board for the publication, focusing on the cover page and the content layout. I explored different colors, typography, and visual styles to establish a consistent design direction for the book.

After completing the mood board, I began creating the cover page in Adobe Illustrator. I applied the visual style, colors, and typography from the mood board to design a cover that reflects the theme and content of the publication.

After completing the mood board, I started designing the cover page in Adobe Illustrator, applying the visual style, colors, and typography from the mood board. Once the cover page was finished, I sent it to Mr. Asrizal for approval. After receiving his approval, I began working on the content layout in Adobe Illustrator, ensuring that the design remained consistent throughout the publication.

After completing the content layout, I sent it to Mr. Asrizal for feedback on my project. He pointed out that the font size was too large and advised that the maximum size for reading or content text should be 14, so I made the necessary adjustments to ensure the text was clear and properly formatted.

✿ REFLECTION ✿

During this task, I learned how to translate my research into a visual publication. Creating the mood board helped me establish the design style, while designing the cover page and content layout in Adobe Illustrator allowed me to apply those ideas consistently. Sending my work to Mr. Asrizal for feedback taught me the importance of attention to detail, such as using the correct font size for readability. Overall, this task strengthened my skills in visual communication, layout design, and incorporating feedback to improve the final product.
