✿ PROJECT 2: PRODUCTION ✿

1.0 WALK CYCLE

In Project 2A, we were tasked with animating our own character's walk cycle. Initially, I followed Mr. Kamal's instructions and drew out all the frames, but I wasn't satisfied with the character design. Therefore, I decided to re-draw the character, paying special attention to creating detailed and accurate legs to improve the overall animation.

Before I started drawing the walk cycle, I searched for some examples on the internet. This research helped me understand the key elements and nuances of animating a walk cycle, providing valuable reference material to guide my own animation process.

Figure 2.1 Example from Internet

Before I started drawing the walk cycle, I searched for some examples on the internet to understand the key elements and nuances of animating a walk cycle. Besides that, Mr. Kamal also taught us in class how to draw frame by frame, providing additional guidance and techniques to help us create a smooth and realistic animation.

We also did some exercises to practice drawing walk cycles. These exercises helped us understand the timing, spacing, and key poses needed to create a smooth and realistic walking animation. Through these exercises, we were able to refine our techniques and improve our overall animation skills. Link to Exercise Week 6

For the walk cycle, we needed to draw 8 frames to ensure smooth and realistic movement. This sequence of frames captured the essential phases of the walking motion, allowing the character to walk fluidly when the frames were repeated.

2.0 JUMP ANIMATION

After completing the walk cycle, I began working on the jump animation. I studied references and applied key principles to ensure the jump looked dynamic and realistic, focusing on key poses and in-between frames for a smooth, fluid motion.

Before starting the jump animation, I first did some research to understand the key principles and movements involved.

Figure 2.5 References

After completing the research, I gained a much deeper understanding of jump animation. This included the key principles such as anticipation, action, and follow-through, as well as the importance of capturing the character's weight and momentum. This knowledge helped me to plan and execute the animation more effectively, ensuring a fluid and realistic jump sequence. Link to Exercise Week 7

After completing the sketches, I ensured the direction, height, and distance of the jump were accurate. With these details finalized, I began animating the final jump sequence.

✿ REFLECTION ✿

Project 2 was a significant learning experience, focusing on animating a walk cycle and a jump animation. I initially faced challenges with the character design in the walk cycle, leading me to re-draw the character for improved fluidity. For the jump animation, I conducted research and refined the key aspects of direction, height, and distance, which enhanced the final result.

The project taught me the importance of detailed planning and attention to animation principles. Feedback from Mr. Kamal and practical exercises were crucial in guiding my improvements. Overall, Project 2 strengthened my animation skills and prepared me for more complex tasks.
